At BEN, we’ve been working with our communities for over 10 years to help connect, inspire and engage them to lead the Just Energy Transition. Back in 2013, we and other community members helped develop the Strategy for Community Energy. Download the strategy wheel here.
The single most impactful way we can deliver a Just Energy Transition is by handing our communities power over their own energy, with the money generated going directly back into the community.
WHAT IS COMMUNITY ENERGY?
Community energy is renewable energy that is owned and controlled by communities. Community energy projects empower local communities, and a great example of this is the Lawrence Weston turbine, operated by Ambition Community Energy.
Through the 4.2Kwh turbine’s output, the funds are going back into the local community group, Ambition Lawrence Weston, so that they can continue their vital work supporting the people of Lawrence Weston.
